Seth Rogen picks Dominic Cooper to star in AMC's 'Preacher'

Seth Rogen and AMC have found their Preacher. Dominic Cooper will star in the television adaptation of the DC Comics/Vertigo comic book.

Rogen, who is directing the pilot with Evan Goldberg, made the casting official today in a tweet. “We have Jesse Custer! @dominiccoop is gonna save our souls. #Preacher,” Rogen wrote.

Cooper was linked to the project last week, with TheWrap reporting that he was close to a deal to star in the Sony TV and AMC Studios production.

Cooper will star as Jesse Custer, a Texas preacher who can influence other people when he merges with a creature from heaven. He joins his girlfriend and an Irish vampire to find God. The comic was written by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon and AMC put in a pilot order in December.

The cast includes Ruth Negga (World War Z), Joseph Gilgun (U.K.’s Misfits), Ian Colletti (Rake) and Lucy Griffiths (Winter’s Tale).

Cooper was just in Dracula Untold and Need For Speed. He’s also known to Marvel fans as Howard Stark in Agent Carter and Captain America: The First Avenger. He also has a role in Warcraft.
