Teacher credited with saving students from gunman at North Thurston High School

A teacher in the town of Lacey, Washington is being credited with preventing a school shooting today at North Thurston High School.

According to Q13 Fox News, the teacher was identified by students as Mr. Brady Olson and it was confirmed by Courtney Schrieve, who is a spokesperson for the school district for North Thurston High School.

In a statement, she said, “He is a very brave man who probably saved a lot of people today.” One student reported that he was getting ready for another day at school when he heard other people say that someone was carrying a gun.

Rodolfo Ruedas said “Everyone was scared” and when he was running away, he saw Olson and a resource officer for the school holding someone down on the ground.

A student tweeted, “I owe mr. Olson my life. I think we all do. I wouldn’t have had the courage to do that.”

According to KOMO, police were going to sweep the school and once they were finished, students would be free to go home. Police had gone to the scene around 7:30 am after there were reports of an active shooter on the premises.

No details about the gunman have been released yet, but Schrieve said an arrest had been made and that “Everybody’s safe and that’s the most important thing.”
