Texas Rangers want Russell Wilson to play baseball

It's been done in the past. Deion Sanders, Bo Jackson, and other gifted athletes have pulled off the feat. It is the dream of being a two-sport professional athlete.

The most recent name to be rumored among the two-sport athlete possibilities has been Russell Wilson.

Wilson, of course, is the Super Bowl winning quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks. Recently, he raised some eyebrows with his admission that he doesn't want the dram to be killed completely.

"You never want to kill the dream of playing two sports," Wilson said to Bryant Gumbel on the most recent episode of HBO's Real Sports. "I would honestly play two sports," via CBS Sports.

Wilson was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 41st round of the 2007 entry draft, via Baseball Reference. However, once he decided to head off to college, shifted his focus towards football.

Wilson has been a face for the Texas Rangers during Spring Training recently. They certainly enjoy his company. Wilson, is now saying they'd like to enjoy his company even further.

According to Wilson, the Rangers want him to play baseball.

"Yeah, I wouldn't be worried about the statistics of it. I know I can play in the big leagues. With the work ethic and all that, I think I definitely could for sure," Wilson said. "And that's why the Texas Rangers, you know, got my rights. And they want me to play. You know, Jon Daniels, the GM, wants me to play. We were talkin' about it the other day."

Furthering the situation is the fact that Wilson and the Seahawks are on the spot to work out a long-term deal. The quarterback is entering the final year of his rookie contract. He will become a free agent following the 2015 season if not signed.
