Broncos' Ryan Clady likely out for the season

Denver Broncos left tackle Ryan Clady will probably miss the 2015 season after tearing his left ACL.

The injury occurred during a voluntary practice on Wednesday. Clady’s knee buckled when he was blocking during a passing play, according to the Associated Press. He took part in another play before pulling himself out of practice because his knee was sore. Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak said on Thursday that Clady will have surgery in eight to ten days. His status for the 2015 season hasn’t been determined yet, but short-term injured reserve could be an option.

"He's worked really hard and he's a great kid and we were counting on him,” Kubiak said, USA Today notes. “But that's the challenge in this business. We have to work through them and we have to help Ryan work through them. Very tough day for me, even tougher for Ryan. But this football team will stay positive and keep pushing."

Clady was a first-round pick for the Broncos in 2008. In 2013 he signed a five-year, $52.5 million contract with the Broncos. He missed most of the 2013 season due to a Lisfranc injury to his left foot. He is a four-time Pro Bowler, and a two-time All-Pro, and has started every game in six of his seven seasons in the NFL, according to ESPN. Last year the Broncos gave up an NFL low 17 sacks.

Rookie Ty Sambrailo filled in for Clady during Thursday’s practice. Michael Schofield and Chris Clark are other options to be Clady’s replacement, although Clark will probably stay at right tackle. Ryan Harris, who signed with the Broncos on Thursday, is another option to be Cladys replacement.
