Celebrity Birthdays, May 10: Bono and Kenan Thompson

Musician Bono and actor Kenan Thompson are celebrating their birthdays today, May 10.

Bono, 55

Singer-songwriter, musician, businessman and philanthropist Bono turns 55 today. Born Paul David Hewson, Bono gained worldwide fame as the frontman of the rock band U2. The band released their debut album, Boy, in 1980. They went on to release 12 more studio albums, the most recent being 2014's Songs of Innocence. The band received 22 Grammy awards and won the 2003 Golden Globe award for their Best Original Song, "The Hands That Built America," used for the film Gangs of New York.

Outside of U2, Bono did solo work which included collaborations with numerous artists including Frank Sinatra, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Luciano Pavarotti, Sinead O'Connor, Green Day, Bob Dylan, Tina Turner, B.B. King, Bruce Springsteen, Tony Bennett, The Corrs, Wyclef Jean, Kylie Minogue, Jay Z and Rihanna. He also worked with The Edge to write music and lyrics for the Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.

Bono is also a well recognized philanthropist. He is the co-founder for Debt, AIDS, Trade, Africa (DATA), the fashion brand EDUN, the ONE Campaign and Product Red, which are all organizations created to help aid difficult struggles in Africa.

Bono was granted an honorary knighthood by Elizabeth II of the UK for services to the music industry and for his humanitarian work.

Kenan Thompson, 37

Actor and comedian Kenan Thompson turns 37 today. Thompson made his film debut in the 1994 hockey film D2: The Mighty Ducks. He went on to star in Heavyweights and D3: The Mighty Ducks.

Thompson gained attention after starring on two Nickelodeon shows, All That from 1994 to 1999 and Kenan & Kel from 1996 to 1998. He also starred in the comedy series The Steve Harvey Show. In 1997, he starred in the film Good Burger, based on the character he and Kel Mitchell played on All That.

Thompson played the lead in the live-action remake of Fat Albert. He also starred in the films Love Don't Cost a Thing, Barbershop 2: Back in Business, Snakes on a Plane, The Smurfs and The Smurfs 2. He also made television appearances on Sister, Sister, The Parkers, Felicity, Psych and iCarly.

Thompson is currently a regular cast member on Saturday Night Live. After joining the sketch comedy show, he became the first SNL cast member to be born after its premiere in 1975. He is currently married to model Christina Evangeline and recently welcomed a baby girl.
