This Week in Television: One Direction, 'American Idol'

Season finales, buzzer beaters, and all the craziness in between. Here’s a look ahead of what to look out for this week in television:

Television
For the few of you still interested in the show, American Idol 14th season is about to wrap. The top three contestants, Nick Fradiani, Clark Beckham and Jax will all vie for the public’s affection on May 13 which will lead into the finale where the winner will be announced that following night on May 14.

SPOILER ALERT: For those unaware, the CW’s hit teen drama The Vampire Diaries will be saying goodbye to a main character during it season finale on May 14. Nina Dobrev announced on her Instagram that she has decided to step down from the show. While she never gave a definitive reason as to her departure; just knowing how her costar/ex-boyfriend, Ian Somerhalder, and former friend, Nikki Reed, recently tied the knot? Can’t blame her for wanting to split.

Talk Shows

According to E! Online, boyband One Direction will be making their highly anticipated rebirth as a foursome on The Late Late Show with James Corden on May 14. Just three months shy of former bandmate, Zayn Malik ditching them during the middle of their world tour, the boys will conduct their first a sit-down interview. Here's to hoping that they delve into the Malik's departure as well as the drama surrounding the band and Malik's music producer friend Naughty Boy.

Award Shows
The 2015 Billboard Music Awards is set to take place in Las Vegas on May 17 at 8|7c. Taylor Swift leads all nominees with a staggering 14 nominations. According to Billboard, Swift also plans to debut her heavily star studded music video for her new single “Bad Blood” during the show. Iggy Azalea and Britney Spears are scheduled to perform their collaboration “Pretty Girls.”

And yes, 1D is also said to be in town for this event as well. Busy boys.

Sports
The 2015 NBA playoffs 2nd series' are currently underway. Coming off a weekend that had three buzzer beater wins, this week’s games are expected to be a treat. The games leading up to the Conference Final series next week are shaping up to exciting. However, after three blowouts games and intentional fouling shenanigans that led to a sluggish start of Game 4, the LA Clippers vs. Houston Rockets looks to be the only downer of the bunch. It appears as if the Rockets are already planning future vacation. Hopefully they can step it up to make Game 5 competitive. Every other match up has been nonstop action with close games galore. Fun!

For the six people (like me) who still watch wrestling, WWE is churning out another PPV called Payback on May 17. The main event will feature Randy Orton and former Shield members Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, and Roman Reigns as the face off in a Fatal Four Way match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. The under card features John Cena taking on Rusev in an I Quit match as well as…...well nothing else. Hopefully this week's buildup will help increase interest.
