Before Breaking Bad, creator Vince Gilligan worked as a writer and co-executive producer on The X-Files. However, though a lot of fans were hoping to see him back, Gilligan says he will not have any involvement in the upcoming reboot.
Gilligan was asked in his recent Reddit Ask Me Anything if he would be writing for Fox's upcoming X-Files reboot, and he said that he wouldn't be able to due to scheduling conflicts with Better Call Saul.
He said that he's sad to miss out on the reboot, calling X-Files his second favorite job ever behind Breaking Bad, but he added that he can't wait to watch the upcoming episodes as a fan.
Gilligan wrote some classic episodes of The X-Files such as "Bad Blood," which he named as his favorite episode that he wrote. He also said that "Je Souhaite" was his favorite experience on the show, as that was the episode he both wrote and directed.
It's sad that such a talented creative mind will be absent from the X-Files reboot, but it makes sense that Gilligan would want to stick with his baby, Better Call Saul. And thankfully, the X-Files reboot is still in good hands, with creator Chris Carter back on board.
The upcoming reboot of The X-Files will be a six episode limited run on Fox, as we previously reported. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will both be returning to the series. We don't yet have a premiere date, but the show is expected to begin filming this summer.
