‘Big Brother 17’ Season Premiere Part 1 Recap

It is the middle of summer which means it is time for a brand new season of Big Brother. Julie Chen welcomes us to the new house and tells us we have more cameras and microphones than we ever have before.

Julie promises an even more twisted summer than ever. She says we are going to unleash three twists on the game starting tonight. One twist is a fan favorite, one is only known by America and the other one is called ‘BB Takeover.’

We meet the first group of houseguests. We have James, an adopted country boy from South Carolina. He loves his southern background and anything involving hunting and fishing. Meg is a server from New York City who lives with her gay best friend. Jace is an adrenaline junkie from Venice Beach, California. Audrey is from Georgia and compares herself to Dexter Morgan. Austin is a pro wrestler from California. D’Alene is a freelance poker dealer from California. Clay is a former football player from Texas A&M and Shelli is a recently divorced interior designer from Atlanta.

Julie informs them they will be in the house for 98 days. Da’Vonne, Shelli, Clay and Austin are the first four houseguests to enter. They explore the house while James, Jace, Audrey and Meg are the next four HG to enter the house. They continue to explore the house and then finally sit down and introduce each other.

The Big Brother house looks completely different from past seasons. They being talking to each other and Meg feels that her and Jace’s high energy could be good. Clay doesn’t reveal that he is a former football player and you can tell he and Shelli are interested in each other. James seems to have a crush on Meg and Audrey announces to everyone that she is the first transgender person to ever play Big Brother.

The guys are talking about continuing their workout routines in the house while Da’Vonne, Shelli and Audrey discuss forming the first alliance of the season. Audrey doesn’t want the guys to run the game. They officially lock in the first alliance. Audrey continues to tell the HG about the process of becoming a transgender. Da’Vonne quickly notices that Audrey is definitely using this to gain some sympathy from the HG.

Julie calls the HG to the living room. She informs them that a fan favorite twist is returning this season. The Battle of the Block twist is back. We will crown two Head of Household’s and they will each nominate two people. The four nominated HG will compete against each other and the winning team will be safe from eviction. They will also dethrone the HOH who nominated them. Julie will inform them of a second twist later tonight. She then informs them that the first HOH competition is about to start. One person has to sit out and Da’Vonne volunteers to sit out, as long as she will not be nominated.

A red carpet is set up outside with Entertainment Tonight’s Kevin Frasier interviewing the HG on the red carpet of their new movie Big Brother presents “UFOh No.” The competition has the HG standing on a moving plank while trying to catch tomatoes. The first HG to catch ten tomatoes will be the first HOH of the season. The competition begins and Meg, Austin and Clay are the first three eliminated. Jace hangs on and avoids elimination multiple times while James seems to be dominating the competition. The final four HG all fall off their platforms at the same time. We go to instant replay to determine the first HOH of the season. James was the last one to hit the ground, meaning he is the first HOH of the season.

Julie calls the HG back to the living room to inform them of a new twist for this season. It is called the ‘BBTakeover.’ This allows a new twist to be unleashed on the house every week and can happen at any time. When they hear the sound, they must meet in the living room. The HG are quickly frazzled and seem to be unsure of the game now. Austin admits in the diary room that you will be seeing everybody’s true colors very early on.

We visit Julie outside the Big Brother house where she reveals the third twist of the season. It is called the Twin Twist. One of the houseguests has a twin and they will be switching out randomly. If the twins can survive the first five evictions, they will both be allowed to play the game.

We get a quick preview of the HG that will be entering the house tomorrow night and find out that the first BBTakeover twist will happen tomorrow night. We eavesdrop on the first eight HG discussing the HOH competition and what is going to happen next…
