Amy Schumer responds to writer who called her jokes racist

The hilarious Amy Schumer is under attack after a recent article called her jokes racially insensitive.

A writer on The Guradian accused Schumer of having a “shockingly large blind spot around race.”

The article used jokes like “Nothing works 100% of the time, except Mexicans,” or “I used to date Latino guys. Now I prefer consensual," as examples of how Schumer can be racist.

People reports that the 34-year old responded on Twitter explaining that she was not racist in any way.

“You can call it a ‘blind spot for racism’ or ‘lazy’ but you are wrong. It is a joke and it is funny. I know because people laugh it at. Even if you personally did not.”

Schumer wants to people to realize the she is a comic, and it is not her job to play it safe, it is her job to make people laugh.

At the same time, Schumer is playing a character when she does stand-up, but in real life she is a “devout feminist and a lover of all people.”

Her movie Trainwreck comes out July 17.
