On July 1, Billy Joel will set the record for the most performances ever at Madison Square Garden.
Joel's last performance at New York's most famous arena on June 20 tied him with Elton John with 64 shows each. His 65th show next week will break the record, according to Newsday.
Since January 2014, Joel has performed every month at the Garden. He promised fans to continue this residency so long as they keep coming. With this string of shows, he already broke his own record for most consecutive shows, which he previously set at 12 in 2006.
For each show that Joel does, Madison Square Garden raises a banner in the arena. The "12" banner from his 2006 tour is being donated to the Garden of Dreams Foundation. It will be auctioned off to create scholarships and community projects for more than 275,000 children, according to CBS News. The winner will receive the banner, signed by Joel himself, and two tickets to one of his shows at MSG.
