Calvin Harris praises his 'girl' Taylor Swift after Apple Music victory

Calvin Harris praised his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, for standing up for herself and other artists to Apple this past weekend.

When Swift wrote an open letter to Apple Music explaining why she pulled 1989 from their streaming service, they bowed down and agreed to pay artists during users’ 3-month trial period.

Harris was proud of her for her courage and tweeted, “I just played a gig inside a giant owl and my girl just changed the entire music industry what a day.”

She explained she wasn’t doing it for herself because she can support her entire team by doing live shows, but rather the emerging artists who won’t be paid for three months and need the money.

“This is about the new artist or band that has just released their first single and will not be paid for its success. This is about the young songwriter who just got his or her first cut and thought that the royalties from that would get them out of debt,” she wrote. “This is about the producer who works tirelessly to innovate and create, just like the innovators and creators at Apple are pioneering in their field…but will not get paid for a quarter of a year’s worth of plays on his or her songs.”

Apple executive Eddie Cue replied on Twitter with “Apple will always make sure that artist are paid,” adding, “We hear you @taylorswift13 and indie artists. Love, Apple.”
