A recall was put into effect for bottled water distributed in Pennsylvania facilities over fear of E. coli contamination.
The Asbury Park Press reported that the company Niagra Bottling, LLC issued the recall due to concerns of contamination. The brands the water is sold under include Acadia, Acme, Big Y, 7-11, Niagra, Superchill, Nature’s Place, PriceRite, Best Yet, Wegmans, Western Beef Blue, Morning Fresh, ShopRite, and Shaws.
Wegmans clarified in a statement that the affected products for their brand is the Wegmans Food You Feel Good About Spring Water and was not sold in the state of New Jersey.
There have been no complaints of illness, but on June 10, the E. Coli bacteria was discovered in one of the spring sources used for Niagra.
A statement from the company said they were “issuing a voluntary recall for all spring water products” produced in the Pensyllvania facilities in Hamburg and Allentown between June 10 and 18.
NJ.com reported the company stopped using the water source that was contaminated since the company had not been notified in a timely fashion.
Symptoms of E. Coli include diarrhea, nausea, headaches, and cramps. Products that were affected have codes beginning with the letters F and A for Hamburg and Allentown, respectively. The company also said the products affected were “made between June 10 at 3 am (EDT) and June 18 at 8 pm (EDT) [and] should not be used.”
