Actor Sir John Hurt has revealed he was diagnosed with the early stages of pancreatic cancer.
BBC News reported The Elephant Man actor said the diagnosis would not prevent him from working and that he is “undergoing treatment.” He also reportedly said he is “optimistic about a satisfactory outcome.”
He decided to reveal his diagnosis to the press as a means to continue the openness he has always held with his life toward the public.
Hurt has appeared in many television and movie roles, including Doctor Who in 2013 and Hercules last year. He has other projects in the works, with a small screen film called The Last Panthers coming in November this year. He also appeared in Harry Potter & The Sorcerer’s Stone.
News.com.au reported the 75-year-old actor received knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II just recently for his work in the arts.
In his statement, Hurt said, “I am continuing to focus on my professional commitments and will shortly be recording (play) Jeffrey Bernard is Unwell (one of life’s small ironies!) for BBC Radio 4.”
