'Suicide Squad' director David Ayer hired an on-set therapist for actors during filming

There is no doubt that the new film Suicide Squad is going to be intense.

So intense that director David Ayer has arranged for a therapist to be available for his cast as they film their dark and heavy roles for the highly anticipated movie, notes E! News.

“We kind of have like a therapist on board if you fall off the wagon and really are villainous,” star Adam Beach, who plays Slipnot in the film, revealed. “There’s a friend of [Ayer’s] that’s very unique in making sure we have our ground.”

The actor clarified that their on-set therapist more of a “life coach” and that “he wants to make sure we finish a movie and don’t disappear somewhere and then don’t show up for work.”

Beach also discussed Ayer’s encouragement for the actors to “explore very fine thin lines going to the dark side” and his directing style, making it seem like hiring a therapist was a good call.

“David Ayer is about realism,” Beach explained. “So if your character is tormented, he wants you to torment yourself. He wants the real thing.”

Beach is joined by an all-star cast including Jared Leto as The Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.

Leto proved to have been channeling his inner Joker earlier this month when he sent his co-stars a live rat and a dead hog, along with a video explanation of his bizarre gifts.

"Basically, what he said was, 'Guys, I can't be there but I want you to know I'm doing my work as hard as you guys,'" Beach said. "The video he showed is in character. It blew our minds away. Then we realized that day, this is real."

Suicide Squad hits theaters Aug. 5.
