Up until last year, we hadn’t heard much from singer and songwriter Alanis Morissette until she did an interview with Oprah Winfrey in which she discussed the downside of fame and the toll it took on her emotionally after the success of her first album, Jagged Little Pill. Now, the 41-year-old is making headlines again for that album twenty years after its release.
The Guardian suggested that JLP could have been the most feminist album ever and asked what other female artists thought of the record that put Morissette on the map.
The British acoustic rock trio The Staves said they remembered how the songs were so different than anything they had ever heard before. The sisters said that they listened to the album “all the time” and thought of Morissette as a “strong female role model.”
Molly Rankin of the Canadian pop band Alvvays agreed and said she memorized all the words to every song on the album and would often try to mimic the star.
Morissette, of course, had other hits that followed the 1995 smash, but the success of an album that sold 30 million copies is hard to top.
TheCelebrityCafe.com has decided to count down all of the singer’s head-banging hits from that iconic record as well as some memorable tunes from her later albums.
