Zayn Malik will likely not be returning to One Direction despite hashtag '#WelcomeBackTo1DZayn'

Sorry Directioners, it looks like Zayn Malik will not be returning to One Direction.

Rumors of the former boy band member rejoining the group surfaced when the hashtag “#WelcomeBackTo1DZayn” began trending on Twitter Sunday night.

According to The Telegraph, a Brazilian fan tweeted the hashtag after learning that there would be a documentary on the band airing on a Brazilian TV show. She took to Twitter to announce the false news of Malik’s return claiming that his interview on the show revealed that he would be returning to the band.

Once the hashtag began trending, Directioners from around the world began to believe the news, sparking a worldwide confusion.

Malik left One Direction in March after five years, making the band a foursome consisting of Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne. In an official statement Malik explained that he left the band because he wanted to be a “normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight.”

Though Malik will not be returning to his boy band days anytime soon, he and his former bandmates are on good terms.

The band recently made their first television appearance since Malik’s exit on The Late Late Show and talked with host James Corden about Malik.

“There were certain parts of this job that Zayn loved and certain parts of the job that he didn’t,” Payne explained. “If you don’t like your job, you’ve got to follow your heart sometimes and go where you need to go. There’s no argument with that. We wish him the best of luck with whatever he gets up to.”

Malik or reps from One Direction have yet to comment on the hashtag.
