$1 million reward offered for stolen 'Wizard of Oz' ruby slippers

Nearly a decade ago, a pair of Judy Garland's ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz were stolen. Now, an anonymous donor has offered a $1 million reward for information that could lead to the slippers' return.

The slippers were last seen at the Judy Garland Museum in Grand Rapids, Minnesota in August 2005. Four pairs of the slippers were created for Garland for the film shoot. The other three pairs still exist; one is displayed at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington while another was acquired by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences in 2012 for a future museum project.

The reward offer comes from an anonymous donor in Arizona who is "a huge fan of Garland and the 1939 movie," according to The Associated Press.

The slippers were insured for $1 million. John Kelsch, executive director of the Judy Garland Museum, believes that they could be worth $2 million to $3 million today.
