The Baltimore Orioles acquired outfielder Gerardo Parra in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday.
According to ESPN, the Orioles are sending pitching prospect Zach Davies to the Brewers in exchange for Parra. The trade is pending physicals. Parra becomes the second Brewers outfielder to be traded in the last two days. On Thursday the Brewers traded center fielder Carlos Gomez to the Houston Astros.
The Brewers have sent relieve pitcher Jonathan Broxton and cash to the St. Louis Cardinals for outfielder Malik Collymore.
Parra had interest from multiple teams. He is a two-time Gold Glove winner and will be eligible for free agency after this season. He is hitting .328 with nine homeruns and 31 RBIs in 100 games this season, according to the Associated Press. Parra currently has 14-game hitting streak, which is the longest active streak in MLB. He is a .279 career hitter.
Davies was drafted by the Orioles in 2011. He is considered to be the number three prospect in the Orioles organization. In 19 games this season he is 5-6 with a 2.84 ERA with Triple-A Norfolk.
The Orioles have designated right-hander Bud Norris for assignment to make room on the roster for Parra. They are 51-50 and are tied for second in the AL East behind the New York Yankees. The Orioles are six games behind the Yankees and two games out in the wild-card race.
