The Converse Chuck Taylor All Star shoes might have the most iconic shoe design in American history, but that doesn’t mean they are too comfortable to walk around. That’s about to finally change though, since Converse has unveiled the Chuck Taylor All Star II.
The Chuck Taylor IIs were actually unveiled during an event in Boston this morning is the first major redesign for the shoe since it was introduced in 1917. They will be 20 percent lighter than the classic Chuck Taylor, but will have much more support. The features also include a padded non-slip tongue, micro-suede lining and premium canvas.
Even with all these changes, the new Chuck Taylors will still look the same. The All Star logo will still be there, along with the white ‘cap’ over the toe.
“We’ve been waiting a long time for this. We’ve worked a long time with it. So, it will be a red-letter day for us as a business I think,” Richard Copcutt, vice president and general manager for Converse, told CBS Boston.
Converse, which is now owned by Nike, sells over 100 million pairs of Chuck Taylors a year. The new Chuck Taylor IIs will be available on July 28.
