Disney: Top 10 Remakes, Reboots and Sequels in the works from the Mouse House

There’s one thing the Walt Disney Company loves more than money: security. In recent years, the studio has seen expensive original ideas flounder, the latest being Tomorrowland from acclaimed director Brad Bird. So instead of investing in top-tier talent to get original ideas, the studio is hard at work remaking nearly all of its animated classics as live-action films.

Why do this? Well, it all goes back to security. Disney knows that everyone knows who Tinker Bell, Winnie the Pooh, Belle, The Beast, Baloo, Mowgli and the Genie are around the world. And the majority of these characters are even in the public domain, so there are no rights issues to worry about. So, Disney can bank on the fact that these movies will make at least $200 million, no matter what critics say. (Cinderella made exactly $200 million in North America earlier this year. Abroad, the film made $338 million.)

While it’s hard to say if Tomorrowland’s failure to inspire imaginations around the world is to blame for the bizarre influx of remake reports from Disney, the timing seems suspect. In May, Tomorrowland fell with a giant thud, making just $203 million worldwide with a $190 million budget. Days later, Tron 3 was killed and the Hollywood trades began reporting Disney remake ideas left and right.

Disney is even already making a sequel from one of its live action remakes. Alice Through the Looking Glass will be out in May 2016.

With that background out of the way, let’s take a look at what Disney has in the works:
