Donald Trump leads first GOP poll since his John McCain 'war hero' remarks

Donald Trump is leading the GOP race.

According to a new telephone poll conducted by CNN/ORC, Trump has the support of 18 percent of polled Republicans, with former Florida Governor Jeb Bush right behind at 15 percent and Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker at 10 percent.

The poll was the first done since the real estate mogul's controversial comments about John McCain. Trump stated that McCain, who spent five years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam, wasn't a real war hero. He has since stated that he doesn't owe McCain an apology for his comments, as we reported. Despite the controversy behind Trump's comments, his support among GOP voters has increased, as shown in the poll.

However, Trump's support from the GOP does not place him at the top when voters from other political parties are factored in. Democrat candidates Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are ahead by "wide margins," according to the CNN/ORC poll.
