Female artist Jessie Bearden makes beautiful portraits out of food

Jessie Bearden must not have listened to her parents when they told her not to play with her food because now she is creating amazing works of edible art.

The 23-year-old created an Instagram account to post all of her work and she is gaining some recognition.

Now at 11.3k followers, Bearden shows no sign of slowing down.

Bearden explains to People about why she chose food as her medium.

“I got really sick of painting because it was just too limiting and pop culture seemed like a natural subject for me.”

Bearden finds herself very inspired by food. When she created the portrait of Caitlyn Jenner, she used Wheaties because of Jenner’s connection with the cereal.

Or when she was working on Adam Levine, her food of choice was sugar in honor of Levine’s hit song.

“Whenever I go to the grocery store, I get really inspired by the colors and textures,” she explains.

Bearden has done amazing work with normal art tools like paint and pencils, but she enjoys the challenge of working with food.

Most times it takes her up to three to four hours per portrait, but she never gets bored.

In fact, her work is getting acknowledgement from big brand names like Jelly Belly and McDonald’s. The fast food brand even hired her to create a display for their McCafe using only coffee.
