HBO's Game of Thrones has been on air for five seasons and will only have three left before the show concludes.
HBO programming president Michael Lombardo, explained that fans can plan on seeing three more seasons of the fantasy drama, this includes the upcoming season six, People reported. Lombardo dropped the news during a press tour during at the Television Critics Association presentation.
Benioff and Weiss, have been open about their vision for the show, which included at least seven seasons. "Seven gods, seven kingdoms, seven seasons. It feels right to us," said Benioff last year during an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
Season eight might not be the end for everything Thrones related on HBO. Lombardo talked about the possiblity of doing a prequel series and said that he is open to anything that the current Thrones showrunners, David Benioff and Dan Weiss, would like to focus on.
"There's enormous storytelling to be mined in a prequel, if [GOT novelist George R. R. Martin] and Dan and David decide they want to tackle that. At this point, all the focus is on the next few years of the show. We haven't had any conversations about [a new series] at this point," said Lombardo.
