Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck were in counseling for two years before deciding to split

New details regarding Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck’s divorce have been revealed.

An insider told E! News that the seemingly perfect couple, who were married for 10 years, had been working on repairing their marriage for two years until “they finally realized they just couldn’t get there.”

Reports speculated that the couple “had been living separate lives and preparing for this for a long time,” but a source revealed that the actors had been separated for 10 months.

Though the insider could not pinpoint specific reasons for their split, they were able to disclose that Ben and Jen “didn’t want the same things.”

Despite being a “great team as parents,” they knew that divorcing would be the best decision for their three children: Violet, 9, Seraphina, 6, and Samuel, 3.

“After spending a lot of time figuring that out, they came to the decision that the best thing for them and for the children would be to make a change,” the insider explained.

One change the couple has made includes Ben moving out of the house. Though this may not be their “ideal” living situation, “it’s best for the kids, and that is their focus.” The actor will still be living on the family’s property but in a different building.

When it comes to the actual divorce, an insider explained that “they are keeping things out of the courts” and they are “not lawyering up to seek revenge.”

Garner and Affleck want to continue co-parenting “as equals” to give their children consistency.
