Four young women were killed Saturday morning on Long Island when a drunk driver crashed into their limousine.
The crash occurred in Cutchogue, New York at approximately 6 p.m., according to CBS New York.
Seven women were in the limousine along with a driver. They just left a local winery when a truck t-boned the side of their limo, which was attempting to make a U-turn. Three of the women died on impact and another died later at the hospital.
WCBS 880's Sophia Hall stated that the crash was so violent that "it nearly cut the limo in half."
The victims — Amy Grabina, 23; Stephanie Belli, 23; Lauren Baruch, 24; and Brittney Schulman, 23 — and their friends hired the limousine so that they could drink responsibly. Several sources reported that the women were part of a bachelorette party, although Newsday stated that "the gathering was not a wedding celebration" and that "the car was hired for a birthday."
The driver of the pickup truck was identified as Steven Romeo, 55. The New York Post reported that he ran into the woods before police caught him. Newsday reported that Romeo was charged with DWI and pleaded not guilty.
