Matt McGorry is using his status to speak out on a pressing social issue: the Black Lives Matter movement.
The Orange Is The New Black star showed his support for the movement in a series of tweets on Friday and shed light on how the phrase “All Lives Matter” undermines the “purpose of the movement.”
“For people who think they are being more inclusive by saying #AllLivesMatter in response to #BlackLivesMatter,” the actor wrote. “They are in reality (un)consciously undermining the purpose of the movement because THIS particular movement is about SPECIFIC issues, as any decently effective movement is.”
This is not the first time McGorry has used social media to discuss social issues.
He recently shared a shirtless photo of himself featuring the nipples of Chrissy Teigen and Miley Cyrus to bring attention to the “Free The Nipple” movement.
“Can’t you tell by how perverse my photo has become without my asexual male nippies?” the actor sarcastically wrote.
McGorry went on to explain how the movement means more than women “getting an even tan,” calling it “one piece of the puzzle of creating deep change in the way our society objectifies women and creates these different standards for men and women (and other genders).”
#BlackLivesMatter doesn't mean other lives don't. Like people who say "Save The Rainforests" aren't saying "Fuck All Other Types of Forests"
