Michael Jordan to be inducted into FIBA Hall of Fame

Michael Jordan will be inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame in September, FIBA announced on Friday.

Jordan is one of nine players that will be inducted into the Hall in September. The rest of the inductees are players Sarunas Marciulionis of Lithuania, Anne Donovan of the U.S., Vladimir Tkachenko of Russia, Ruperto Herrera Tabio of Cuba, Antoine Rigaudeau of France, coach Joan Stirling of Australia, technical official Robert Blanchard of France, and contributor Noah Klieger of Israel, according to the Associated Press. The players and coaches have a combined 13 Olympic medals and seven podium appearances at the FIBA Basketball World Cup and the FIBA Women’s World Championship.

"We are very honoured to announce the illustrious 2015 Class of the FIBA Hall of Fame," FIBA President Horacio Muratore said, FIBA.com notes. "These nine individuals are great personalities who have experienced tremendous success on and off the court. Just as important, they also stand out for the character they have displayed and the countless efforts they have made to help promote our sport. We look forward to honouring them."

Jordan is considered to be the greatest player of all-time. He is in the Naismith Hall of Fame and was a member of the Dream Team. Jordan won two gold medals at the 1984 and 1992 Summer Olympics, while Donovan, the other U.S. inductee, won two gold medals as a player, one as an assistant coach, and one as a head coach for the U.S. national team, according to Sports Illustrated. Jordan also won six NBA championships, six NBA Finals MVP and five regular season MVP awards in his career. Donovan is in the Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.

The 2015 FIBA Hall of Fame class will be inducted on September 19 in Lille, France.
