South Sudanese model Nykhor Paul is frustrated with the lack of experience that most makeup artist having when dealing with black skin. On Monday, she went on Instagram to express her anger.
ET Online reports that Paul started her modeling career in 2008 and has been booking runway shows with well-known fashion designers.
Even after all her years in the business, Paul observes that not much has improved. The photo is of Paul striking a fierce pose with a lengthy caption describing her problems with the fashion industry.
“Dear white people in the fashion world! Please don’t take this the wrong way but it’s time you people get your shit right when it comes to our complexion! Why do I have to bring my own makeup to a professional show when all the other white girls don’t have to do anything but show up wtf!”
According to Jezebel, Paul has won the models.com Humanitarian Award for her foundation that brings awareness to violence in South Sudan, yet she is still facing disrespect in the fashion industry.
“Don’t try to make me feel bad because I am blue black. It’s 2015, go to Mac, Bobbi Brown, Make up forever...” and the list goes on.
Even though there are much less black models than white models, Paul believes that it doesn’t mean they should be ignored. She argues that since the makeup industry has caught up to their skin color, why can’t the fashion industry?
