'Once Upon A Time' at SDCC: Cast reveals secrets for season five

This year at San Diego Comic-Con one of the most popular panels was with the cast of the hit ABC show Once Upon A Time. The majority of the main cast was there and the panel was without a doubt quite revealing about what is to come in the fifth season of the show.
Hosting the panel was comedian and well-known TV fanatic Yvette Nicole Brown who can sometimes be seen giving her analysis on shows such as The Talking Dead with Chris Hardwick. During this panel Brown definitely was a great host as she asked the stars and creators of the show important questions on what fans can expect for the next season.
After announcing that this would be the “best panel” at comic-con, Brown brought out to the stage the creators of the show Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis. Following the creators were main actors of the show Josh Dallas (Prince Charming), Ginnifer Goodwin (Snow), Colin O’Donoghue (Captain Hook), Jennifer Morrison (Emma Swan), Lana Parilla (Regina), Sean Maguire (Robin Hood), Rebecca Mader (Wicked Witch), Emilie de Ravin (Belle) and Robert Carlyle (Rumplestiltskin).

After the actors and actresses graced the audience with their presence Brown got right into talking about the fourth season and what went down with the town of Storybrooke and eventually the events which lead up to Emma Swan’s turn into becoming the new Dark One.
Some of the main topics of discussion focused around the character Henry, played by Jared Gilmore (absent from the panel), who had become the new author at the end of season four. The creators, Kitis and Horowitz jokingly said that Henry will “not regret breaking the quill at the end of season four at any point.” Their sarcastic tone suggested that in season five, events will take place that will make Henry regret breaking the quill so that he will not have a chance to rewrite anyone’s fate.
Morrison talked about her character’s transformation from becoming the Savior to now being the dreaded dark one. Morrison described her pleasure at being able to start playing a different type of character as an actress. She described the change of character almost like a new start to the show for her, like a rejuvenation. Goodwin and Dallas also described being able to play darker character in season four rather exciting and would like to explore more of that dark side to their characters. After talking about her transformation into the dark one, the audience was treated with an exclusive new scene from season five of Morrison’s new look. Here is the clip that was show during the panel:

Parilla was able to discuss her character’s transformation as well into a more well liked and kind character. Parilla told the audience that it was really up to Regina herself to discover her goodness within, and that unlike Emma Swan, who was programmed to be a good person, Regina had to actually find that goodness within herself and that Henry played a lot into that and finding love with Robin Hood.
Brown then asked Maguire whether his character’s predicament in the fourth season would affect who he would end up with. Last season, Robin Hood ended up unknowingly impregnating Regina’s sister the evil Wicked Witch. However, Maguire assured the audience that in season five, although Robin will always do the right thing, he will follow his heart more this season and will stay with Regina.

One of the more funnier parts of the panel was when Brown talked about how fans don’t often get to hear from any of the other Storybrooke characters and their opinions on living in a town that always seems to be under attack from a monster or an evil spell. With that being said, there was then a funny little clip that was shown that was almost a fake interview with other town-folk of Storybrooke and how they felt about the danger that always was around them. One of the characters said, “It’s always so hard trying to get blood out of fur.”
Brown also talked to the creators of the show about possibly having a musical episode. The audience cheered at that suggestion and the creators were wary to say whether or not that would be a possibility in the future. Honestly as a fan, I think a musical episode would be great considering ABC is owned by Disney after all and Disney is well known for their musical characters and stories. What the creators could discuss however, was that Camelot would definitely be in next season and that Camelot is a type of parallel universe that has always existed at the same time Storybrooke and the Enchanted Forest has existed.
One of the last pieces of information that was revealed about next season is the introduction of a new character’s story line, Merida from the Disney/Pixar film Brave, which made the fans in the audience go wild.
Overall the Once Upon A Time panel was the one of the most fun and magical panels of the week. Incase you want to see the full panel, check out the video below.
