Seahawks’ Russell Wilson becomes second-highest paid quarterback in NFL

Russell Wilson finally got his contract extension with the Seattle Seahawks and received a huge payday making him the second-highest paid quarterback in the league.

Sports Illustrated reported that the two sides agreed to a four-year extension worth $87.6-million. The contract includes a $31 million signing bonus and about $60 million in guaranteed money.

Wilson himself later took to social media to confirm the news.

The new deal puts him just below the $22 million a year that Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers pulls down, making him the second-highest paid player.

Wilson was selected by the Seahawks in the 2012 NFL Draft and has led the team to one Super Bowl win and two appearances in as many years.

The two-time Pro Bowler started in all 16 games the last three seasons and has thrown for 9,950 yards and 72 touchdowns, Pro-Football-Reference.com noted.

The Seahawks also gave running back Marshawn Lynch a contract extension in March and have most of the key defensive players locked up for years to come.
