‘Star Wars’: Top 10 scenes from SDCC behind-the-scenes video

Six months from now, we will all be sitting in a theater seeing Star Wars: The Force Awakens. While another trailer is promised before Dec. 18, Lucasfilm and Disney did not show one at the San Diego Comic Con this weekend. Everyone expected that, but we did not expect what we got instead - a behind-the-scenes reel.

The video is about as long as a trailer, running over three minutes and actually does include what looks like completed shots we had not seen before. And even if they are not completed shots, they still reveal much about J.J. Abrams’ new movie.

Some might argue that the whole Force Awakens project is just playing with our nostalgia and not pushing the franchise in a new direction. Abrams knows what fans want to see - since he is one himself - so, that’s all he will deliver. But that’s kind of what The Force Awakens needs to do. It has to reintroduce the characters we haven’t seen in 30 years while also introducing us to new characters and worlds. Once the new characters take things over, then the sequel trilogy will be able to escape nostalgia.

And we might actually be surprised by Force Awakens by the time it comes out. Lawrence Kasdan, who worked on The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, might have come up with a script that does challenge our perception of Han Solo, Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker. Maybe they get pushed into doing something we wouldn’t expect them to.

The behind-the-scenes reel certainly gives us enough to chew on for the next six months, so here’s a breakdown of some of its coolest moments.
