Armie Hammer becomes one of Tom Ford's 'Nocturnal Animals'

Tom Ford already has a hell of a cast lined up for his A Single Man follow-up, Nocturnal Animals. The list only grows stronger by the day, though, as Armie Hammer now joins the ensemble drama.

Deadline reported on Hammer's involvement. He joins Jake Gyllenhaal, Amy Adams, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Michael Shannon and Kim Basinger in the ambitious drama, based on Austin Wright's 1993 novel Tony and Susan.

Nocturnal Animals, also adapted by Ford, centers on Susan Morrow (Adams), a woman who receives a manuscript from her ex-husband, a man she separated with 20 years prior, with a note asking for her opinion on his novel. The story-within-a-story film then tells the fictional narrative of Tony Hastings (Gyllenhaal), a man whose family vacation takes a violent turn. Hammer's signed on to play Walker Morrow, Adams' on-screen husband.

In addition to writing and directing, the fashion mogul also produces the new movie alongside Robert Salerno. They were initially joined by George Clooney, but the megastar dropped out in May. Initial plans, back when the project was first announced in February, were to have production begin between September 15 and December. The director has a window in-between his fashion schedule within this timeframe. Those plans are going accordingly, it seems, as a fall production is still in motion. Ford said he only needed six weeks to shoot it, despite the double narrative, and it remains to be seen whether or not he'll stay true to his word.

Hammer was last seen in The Man From U.N.C.L.E. earlier this month, and recently filmed roles in Ben Wheatley's gangster drama Free Fire, actor Nate Parker's directorial debut The Birth of a Nation and the mission thriller Mine. He's also signed on to star in Stanley Tucci's Alberto Giacometti biopic Final Portrait.
