PepsiCo Inc. has released their new Aspartame-Free Diet Pepsi in hopes that it will attract more customers to drink the hopefully healthier soda.
According to Market Watch, the soda company’s sales have not been doing to well. In order to reverse the downward trend, Pepsi has decided to switch out the aspartame sweetener with safer ones.
In a study it was found that aspartame was the main reason why many Americans are not purchasing diet drinks.
Although there is evidence that aspartame does not cause cancer, it does have the possibility of messing with one’s metabolism by causing weight gain.
The company hopes that now that they have removed this chemical, their sales will go up. If not, then Pepsi has another problem to deal with.
The new sweeteners that are being used are called sucralose or Splenda and acesulfame potassium.
Senior Vice President Seth Kaufman does admit that there is a slight difference in the taste, reports ABC News, but he promises that fans should still find the drink delicious.
