This Tuesday night, Billy Joel will perform the final concert at Nassau Coliseum before the Long Island, New York venue closes for renovations.
Joel, a Long Island native, has performed at the Coliseum 31 times during his career.
"The first time I saw Billy Joel was at the Coliseum when I was 15," a fan named Danielle Olszewski told The Daily News. "I remember it was the first time I saw him play 'Piano Man' live and the whole crowd sang it back to him. It gave me chills. It's so fitting that he'll close down the venue — like Bruce Springsteen shutting down Giants Stadium."
Tickets for Joel's show have skyrocketed since they originally went on sale in May and sold out within a few minutes. The average resale price is $268 per ticket, according to Newsday. The cheapest seats, which were $49.50 when they first went on sale, are now being sold for up to $331.
The Coliseum first opened in 1972. It was home to the New York Islanders before they moved to Brooklyn earlier this year. Real estate mogul Bruce Ratner will be in charge of the $130 million renovation project. Ratner also had a big hand in the creation of Brooklyn's Barclays Center.
The new renovations will reduce the seating capacity from 17,000 people to 13,000, with a complete redesign of the building's interior and exterior. Entertainment Weekly reported that the arena is expected to reopen by December 2016.
