Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Schumer writing a screenplay together

Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer's friendship is, by no means, a secret at this point. The making human pyramid-making, jet skiing pals already lit the social media world afire with their adventures together, but their bond is a little closer than initially reported. Beyond being boating friends, they're also Hollywood's latest screenwriting duo.

The New York Times reported on the surprising development. In addition to lending their pens to the movie, the trade reports the acting pair hopes to star in the comedy as well, as a pair of sisters. No other details about the plot are known at the moment, but Lawrence says the newly-founded writing duo are nearly done with the script, having written about a 100 pages already.

"It just flowed out of us," Lawrence confesses. "Amy and I were creatively made for each other. We have different flavors. It’s been the most fun experience of my life. We start the day off on the phone, laughing. And then we send each other pages. And we crack up. I’m flying out tomorrow to see her in Chicago. We’ll write a little bit with her sister, Kim, who worked with Amy when she was writing Trainwreck.”

Schumer, between the aforementioned Judd Apatow film and her show Inside Amy Schumer, already cemented her status as Hollywood's latest hot ticket writer, but the new movie becomes Lawrence's first screenwriting effort. While the topic of writing hasn't come up in recent interviews, Lawrence did talk to Collider back in 2013 about her interest in directing a Step Brothers-esque comedy in the near future. So expanding her funny bone creatively with Schumer as an on-screen pair of siblings is in line with the action/drama star's interests.

What makes this bond all-the-more impressive in its development is how quickly it blossomed. Schumer and Lawrence only met a couple months ago, when the Hunger Games star reached out to the comedian via email after seeing Trainwreck. By Lawrence's account, the Oscar winner said she humbly told Schumer she didn't "know where to get started," but settled with "I guess I should say it: I'm in love with you."

"We started emailing," she continued, "and then emailing turned into texting. We really hit it off, to say the least."

There's no word yet on when Schumer and Lawrence hope to get their first film together rolling in front of cameras, but an original screenplay by two of the hottest female stars in the business today is unlikely to be ignored. It's all a matter of scheduling at this point. Lawrence has two new movies set to release later this year: the final Hunger Games chapter, Mockingjay - Part 2, on November 20, and her third David O. Russell collaboration, Joy, coming this Christmas. She just wrapped production on X-Men: Apocalypse earlier this week, and, earlier this year, also signed on to star in Passengers and The Rosie Project, expected to begin filming this fall and the beginning of the next, respectively. She's also signed on to lead the It's What I Do a Lynsey Addario biopic seeking Steven Spielberg's attention, among other projects, but it's unclear where they stand in her scheduling at the point.

Schumer's certainly not just twirling her thumbs either. In addition to working on her show, she's got her new HBO stand-up special, Live at the Apollo, airing October 17, and she's also currently writing a different screenplay, one initially written by Kate Dippold (Joy, Bridesmaids), centered on a mother and daughter reconfiguring while taken hostage in Brazil during vacation. She's expected to star in the new movie, possibly to be directed by Jonathan Levine (50/50, Warm Bodies, the upcoming The Night Before). Both got a lot going for them, but their newly-announced project sounds like a passionate one in their eyes. Expect them to move their scheduling around according and don't be surprised to see their title card together in a brand new movie.
