Ridley Scott confirms 'Prometheus 2' is his next film

We've been hearing about Prometheus 2 for a while now, but it's not unlike Ridley Scott to talk up a project that he never actually gets around to making. Thankfully, that won't be the case here, and the director has just confirmed the sequel as his next film.

In an interview with Emprie, Ridley Scott very casually confirmed this news while talking about The Martian's release date being moved forward.

“I was already on to my next movie," Scott said. "I was starting to look for locations for my next movie, which is Prometheus 2.”

So there we go. Prometheus 2 is definitely happening, and it will almost certainly make the expected 2017 release date if Scott keeps to that schedule. As we previously reported, the rumor has been that production on Alien 5 had been delayed because Scott wanted to do Prometheus 2 first, and he would shoot it early next year. That hasn't been confirmed, though, and it wasn't totally clear how committed Scott was to that time frame. But after finishing up work on The Martian, Scott is finally getting down to business on his Alien spinoff.

Prometheus 2 will bring back Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender in the lead roles, although the rest of the cast is not known at this time. Scott will be directing a script written by Michael Green and Jack Paglen. Damon Lindelof, who wrote the screenplay for the original film, will not be returning.

Also not returning will be the Xenomorphs themselves. Ridley Scott has said Prometheus 2 will not have any Xenomorphs, the classic alien from the original franchise, and will instead introduce an entirely new species.
