The beloved movie Jumanji that starred the hilarious Robin Williams is being remade and will hit theaters next Christmas!
TheCelebrityCafe.com reports that Sony Pictures recently published the titles and release dates of all its upcoming movies.
Surprisingly, a Jumanji reboot was on the list. It is scheduled for theaters on Dec. 25, 2016.
The original movie was released 20 years ago and was directed by Joe Johnston. It was based on the children’s book written by Chris Van Alsburg. The 1995 cast was filled with stars like Robin Williams, Kirsten Dunst, Bonnie Hunt, Bebe Neuwirth and Jonathan Hyde.
It told the story of a dangerous board game that trapped a man inside it for decades, only to be accidently released by two unknowing kids. Now the three of them must battle crazy monkeys, a huge stampede, and carnivorous plants in order to finish the game and set things to the way they used to be.
There has been limited amount of information released about the 2016 reboot, but it was reported that a script is already in the works.
It has been rumored by Slash Film that the script is being written Zack Helm (Stranger than Fiction and Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium).
Even though it is guaranteed that the special effects will be much better than they were in 1995, let’s hope that the reboot will maintain the charm and excitement of the original movie.
