Jason Fine, the editor of Men's Journal, will take over as the managing editor of Rolling Stone next week.
Fine will succeed Will Dana, who was with Rolling Stone for 19 years, according to The New York Times.
"It has been a great ride and I loved it even more than I imagined I would," Dana said. "I am as excited to see where the magazine goes next as I was in the summer of 1978 when I bought my first issue."
In April, Rolling Stone retracted a controversial article on a gang rape at the University of Virginia after police failed to find evidence of the crime. The Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism then published an independent report on the incident.
Rolling Stone's publisher, Jann S. Wenner, said that "many factors go into a decision" like Dana's departure, hinting that the heavily criticized article, titled "A Rape on Campus," played a role in his decision to leave.
Fine will take over the position as managing editor in the second week of August and will also become the editorial director of Men's Journal, a sister publication of Wenner Media.
The New York Times reported that Fine will meet with Wenner, Wenner's son and the editors of Rolling Stone "before deciding whether to make changes."
