Sam Smith posts anti-gay poem on Instagram to show that homophobia still exists

Sam Smith is one of the most talented singers in the world, but that doesn’t shield him from homophobic attacks. To show that hurtful comments about his sexuality won't offend him, he posted an anti-gay poem that was sent to him on Instagram.

On Tuesday, Smith saw an offensive, but also stupid poem and decided to use it to show that people like this don’t hurt him anymore.

In his Instagram he wrote, “This genuinely doesn’t offend me, coz I’m way too thick skinned when it comes to this kind of sh**.”

Smith has had to deal with bullying since he was 11-years-old. When he would walk home from school, boys would shout the word f****t at him. He described the experience as mortifying.

But now those words don’t affect him anymore. In fact, Entertainment Tonight reports that Smith finds people calling him fat more offensive than anti-gay comments.

“If someone calls me a f****t, it’s like, I am gay and I’m proud to be gay so there’s no issues there. If someone calls you fat, that’s something I want to change.”
