‘Game of Thrones’ breaks Emmys record, HBO gets 43 overall

The 67th Primetime Emmys could have just been renamed ‘The HBO Awards.’ The premium cable network easily blew away the competition with the most Emmys and Game of Thrones also set the record for the most wins for a single season.

HBO won a total of 14 Emmys during the broadcast on Fox. If you add in the awards handed out during the Creative Arts Emmys earlier this month, the network won an astonishing 43 awards.

During the show, HBO shows swept both Comedy and Drama series, with Veep and Game of Thrones finally winning in the top categories. Olive Kitteridge also won six of the seven Limited Series/Movie awards, including Outstanding Limited Series. Bessie also won Outstanding Television Movie at the Creative Arts Emmys.

Game of Thrones also won Outstanding Supporting Actor for Peter Dinklage; Directing for a Drama for David Nutter and Outstanding Writing for showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. The show won eight more awards at the Creative Arts Emmys, finishing with a record 12.

NBC’s The West Wing previously held the record for most Emmy wins for a single year with nine wins in 2002.
