‘The Walking Dead’: Tom Payne joins as comic character ‘Jesus’

The Walking Dead will feature another major character from Robert Kirkman’s comic book series in the sixth season.

Tom Payne has been confirmed to be playing Paul “Jesus” Monroe, reports TheWrap. The actor starred in HBO’s short-lived Luck, as well as the recent British series Waterloo Road.

Jesus becomes a trusted adviser to Rick (Andrew Lincoln) in Alexandria and plays a major role in the war between Alexandria residents and The Saviors in the comics.

The news comes after Entertainment Weekly published on-set photos that appeared to show that Jesus was cast.

Like every season of TWD, season six will feature new faces. Xander Berkeley (Zoo, 24) was cast and some think he will play Negan, a villain in the comics. Tovah Feldshuh, Alexandra Breckenridge and Austin Nichols were all promoted to series regulars earlier this month.

TWD returns on AMC on Oct. 11.
