Actor John Stamos ready to have children

Actor John Stamos, who stars in the new comedy sitcom Grandfathered, says that playing a parent and grandparent is making him want children “even more now.”

Stamos told Us Weekly exclusively that he is ready to be a father. “My ovaries are rattling. Do men have ovaries?” he said. “They’re jingling. I can hear them jingling now.”

In the Fox show, Stamos, 52, plays Jimmy Martino. Martino is a longtime bachelor who learns that he is actually a father, to a son played by Josh Peck, and a grandfather, which leads to major changes for his character. “Everybody on the show is single and we’re all adjusting to this new life,” Stamos says. “Of course, some of it is my point of view. Like, oh, my God, I’ve got a kid, a grandkid.”

The actor explained at Playfest last week that he was drawn to the roll on Grandfathered because it was a character he knew he would feel comfortable playing during long days on set.

“I want to play a character that you feel comfortable playing, that you have fun playing,” Stamos says. “I wanted to be back on TV with something that’s smart and funny and has heart. And it’s emotional. We’re pushing it with this show, especially on Fox. We’re pushing the emotion. It’s either going to work, or it’s not. But we’re going to go home and feel good about it.”

Grandfathered premieres Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
