The parents of Ahmed Mohamed, the 14-year old who’s suspension and jailing went viral last week after he brought a homemade clock to school, have withdrawn him from his Irving, Texas high school.
According to NBC News report, the family told the Dallas Morning News Ahmed’s father asked to pull him out of the school district because he knows his son won’t be happy there. Additionally, the family is currently planning trips to the United Nations and Mecca followed by the White House.
Ahmed’s story drew national media attention after his digital clock was mistaken for a bomb and brought about charges of Islamophobia. The hashtag #IStandWithAhmed immediately began trending.
Many prominent leaders and companies such as Google, Facebook and President Obama expressed public support for Ahmed. He has also received internship offers including one from Twitter.
News Week has reported that Ahmed and his family are allegedly speaking with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and multiple other schools have also extended offers to enroll Ahmed in their classes.
Ahmed said his dream is to intend MIT. The family has also withdrawn their other children from the school district but is still undecided where they will attend.
