Ryan Murphy's new horror series Scream Queens is headed to Fox this fall, and the network has just posted the show's full title sequence.
It's a pretty fun and catchy opening, although this full version probably won't be used every week considering how long it is. The title sequence features all of the main characters facing off against the season's slasher villain, who wears a devil mask and cape. It also pretty firmly establishes the tone of the show, which looks pretty tongue in cheek and not overly serious (the characters literally wink at the camera during the theme song).
This opening also features some fun tributes to classic horror films, like the Nightmare on Elm Street bathtub sequence and a shot reminiscent of the posters for Halloween. In addition to the silliness the show appears to be embracing, a tone which will be familiar to fans of Murphy's other show American Horror Story, let's hope Scream Queens can also work as an effective tribute to the slasher genre.
Scream Queens is a new slasher TV show following a series of murders occurring on a college campus. Like American Horror Story, Scream Queens will be an anthology series and is expected to have at least one major death every episode. That will distinguish it the other recent slasher TV show, MTV's Scream, which is a long running series and therefore barely anybody died at all in its first season.
In addition to Emma Roberts, Lea Michele and Jamie Lee Curtis, Scream Queens also stars Skyler Samuels, Glen Powell, Diego Boneta, Abigail Breslin, and Billie Lourd among others. It will also feature Nick Jonas and Ariana Grande as special guest stars, although considering they aren't signed on for the full season, they will almost definitely get slashed pretty quickly.
Scream Queens premieres its pilot episode on Fox on September 22.
