Donald Trump no longer owns the Miss Universe Organization. He sold it to WME-IMG today.
The move comes just days after Trump announced that he bought up the portion of the Miss Universe Organization that was still owned by NBCUniversal as part of a settlement with NBC. He sued the network and Univision after they decided not to air the Miss USA pageant following Trump’s comments about Mexican immigrants when he announced his plans to run for the White House.
The Miss Universe Organization pageants include Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA.
“When I purchased the pageants many years ago, they were in serious trouble, “Trump said in a statement. “It has been a great honor making them so successful and I have really enjoyed watching the pageants grow throughout the USA and worldwide. The pageants are now in the hands of a great company that will shepherd them to even greater levels of success.”
“Having worked closely with The Miss Universe Organization in the past, we understand the incredible potential of the events and the star-quality of the participants,” Mark Shapiro, Chief Content Officer, WME-IMG, added. “The global reach of The Miss Universe Organization and the content opportunities presented by the pageants make this a strong, strategic addition to our portfolio.”
WME-IMG also runs fashion weeks in New York, Berlin, Sydney and elsewhere, as produces Macy’s Presents Fashion’s Front Row at Madison Square Garden. The company also owns Taste Festivals and Lollapalooza. IMG has also been an executive producer on past Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants.
IMG is a media company, which has been owned by William Morris Endeavor since 2014.
