A sequel to one of the most critically acclaimed horror films of the past decade is on the way, and we now have our first official photos from the set.
According to director James Wan on Instagram, today is the first day of principal photography for The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist. He was able to share a few pictures from filming, including one of a backyard covered in some creepy fog.

The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist will feature the return of Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) as they take on a brand new case, this time in England. Like the first time around, the movie will be based on a real case: a series of purported hauntings in Enfield, England from 1977 to 1979. Frances O’Connor will play a mother who contacts the Warrens after her daughter reports a paranormal experience.
Unlike other horror sequels, The Conjuring 2 will be a completely new story, not featuring the Perron family from the original. In that way, it's almost like an anthology series with a new haunting every time, only tied together by the Warrens' involvement. Carey and Chad Hayes, who also wrote the first film, return to write the screenplay. Just about all of the creative talent is back on board, so this sequel shows a lot of promise.
This is James Wan's return to horror after taking a break to direct Furious 7, which became the fifth highest grossing film of all time. His next film after The Enfield Poltergeist will also be non-horror, as he's signed on to tackle Aquaman for DC, as we previously reported.
The Conjuring 2 hits theaters on June 10, 2016.
