Kim Davis says that she even denied her friends marriage licenses

Kim Davis, the Rowan County, Kentucky clerk who was jailed earlier this month for refusing to give same-sex couples marriage licenses, said in her first interview this week that she even refused to give licenses to her friends in same-sex relationships.

Davis was jailed for six days after refusing to follow a federal court order to start issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples even after the Supreme Court declined to hear her case. Davis, who was elected to her position, said that she couldn’t follow the order because it goes against “god’s authority.”

On Monday, she sat down with ABC News’ Good Morning America and said that she could not even give her friends in same-sex relationships a license.

“I can't put my name on a license that doesn't represent what God ordained marriage to be,” Davis said.

Davis also insisted that she is not a hypocrite, even though she’s been married four times and even had children through an adulterous relationship. “No, I’m forgiven. Washed clean,” she told GMA.

Her legal problems are far from over. She even told GMA that she would go to jail again over this and doesn’t think the licences issued by the deputy clerks are valid. These licenses did not include her name and some same-sex couples are questioning the validity of those licenses. As the Associated Press reports, they are asking U.S. District Judge David Binning to order Davis’ office to issue the licenses again. Their lawyers want Bunning to put the office in receivership to ensure that valid licenses are issued.

“The adulterated marriage licences received by Rowan County couples will effectively feature a stamp of animus against the LGBT community, signalling that, in Rowan County, the government’s position is that LGBT couples are second-class citizens unworthy of official recognition and authorization of their marriage licences but for this Court’s intervention and Order,” lawyers for the American Civil Liberties Union, who are representing the couples, wrote to Bunning.
