Mark Zuckerberg says dislike button could be coming soon to Facebook

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said on Tuesday during a Q&A session that the world’s largest social media network might finally be getting something we actually want: a dislike button.

“I think people have asked about the dislike button for many years,” Zuckerberg said during the event at Facebook headquarters, reports Business Insider. “Today is a special day because today is the day I can say we’re working on it and shipping it.”

Zuckerberg explained that he didn’t want Facebook to become similar to Reddit, where users can downvote stories. But he has since realized that users really want a chance to express something other than “like” for sad moments.

“What they really want is the ability to express empathy. Not every moment is a good moment,” he said.

Zuckerberg made similar comments about a potential ‘dislike’ button in December, but stopped short of saying that there would ever be one. Instead, he contemplated the effects it would have on the world.

“That's not something that we think is good for the world,” Zuckerberg said at an open forum. “The thing that I think is very valuable is that there are more sentiments that people want to express.”

The dislike button, which again is something we want, unlike annoying News Feed tweaks, should be available soon.
