NBC cancels ‘Mr. Robinson,’ renews ‘The Carmichael Show’

NBC’s summer comedies both met very different fates. While Craig Robinson’s Mr. Robinson was cancelled, the network picked up The Carmichael Show for a second season.

Mr. Robinson was a long-gestating series that starred Robinson, who was well-known for his role on The Office. However, the six-episode show was burned through last month with two episodes airing each night. The final episode drew 3.4 million viewers and a 0.9 18-49 rating, notes TVLine.

The Carmichael Show, which stars comedian Jerrod Carmichael and David Alan Grier, also had two episodes air a night, but fared much better. The first episode drew 4.8 million viewers, making it the most-watched summer sitcom debut since 2007, and a 1.1 18-49 rating. Its final season one episode had 3.9 million viewers and a 0.9 rating.

Carmichael confirmed the good news about his show on Twitter.
