Toho is releasing their own Godzilla reboot next summer and it looks like they're going out of their way to top the American version.
A recent Japanese newspaper article revealed some details about the 2016 Godzilla film, and it was translated by Anime News Network. According to the article, the film has been given the official title Shin Gojira. This is a reference to the fact that the movie is bringing back the real Godzilla rather than rebooting it, as the title roughly translates into True Godzilla.
The article also revealed that this time, Godzilla will be taller than ever before. While the Gareth Edwards American version released in 2014 had the monster stand at 355 feet, this one will be even larger than that. Could he top 400 feet this time around?
Three cast members for Shin Gojira have been revealed as well: Hiroki Hasegawa and Yutaka Takenouch, both of whom will be involved with the governmen, and Satomi Ishihara, who will be an American agent. The United States is said to play a role in the film.
The film will be directed Shinji Higuchi, known for his work on Attack on Titan. He says the movie will be the scariest Godzilla yet, treating the monster like a real natural disaster as the original did. That silliness found in many of the later sequels will not be present this time around.
Shin Gojira is now filming in Japan, and it will hit theaters in summer 2016.
